India Receives GE 404 Engine for LCA Mk 1A: A Leap Forward for the Air Force

India has recently taken a notable stride in military aviation by acquiring its second GE-404 engine from the United States for the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Mark 1A. This development signals a substantial enhancement to the Indian Air Force’s combat capabilities and bolsters domestic defense manufacturing efforts.

The GE-404 engine is integral to the operation of the LCA Mk-1A fighters. These aircraft are at the forefront of India's mission to modernize its air power, showcasing indigenous technology complemented by advanced foreign engines. The procurement of these engines is part of a larger contract inked in 2021, wherein India secured 99 GE F404-IN20 engines from General Electric for approximately $716 million. These engines are set to be integrated into over 400 indigenous LCA aircraft in the upcoming decade, thereby significantly benefiting India's burgeoning aerospace sector.

Following the successful delivery of the first GE-F404 engine in March, the arrival of the second engine is pivotal as part of a strategy to deliver a total of 12 engines by the conclusion of the current fiscal year. With continuous escalation in engine production and timely deliveries, the Indian Air Force's operational demands will be met efficiently.
