India and France Collaborate to Produce JET ENGINES for India's Fifth-Generation Fighters

India and France are embarking on an exciting journey to manufacture next-generation jet engines specifically designed for India's fifth-generation fighters, including the indigenous Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA). This collaboration represents a monumental defense initiative valued at ₹61,000 crore and focuses on developing a powerful 120-kilonewton (kN) thrust engine that will be integral to India's future combat platforms.

The joint development of this high-thrust engine is crafted to meet the stringent demands of India's advanced fighter jets. The AMCA, recognized as a fifth-generation stealth fighter, will benefit significantly from this innovative engine. Spanning a decade, this project will initially see aircraft fitted with GE 414 engines, transitioning to the new engine in subsequent models.

Central to this partnership is the co-development and manufacturing of these advanced jet engines, with France's Safran playing a crucial role. This move highlights India's strategic initiative to bolster its indigenous aerospace capabilities while reducing dependence on foreign suppliers.
